Professor and Department Head, Kinesiology
The College of Education at Mississippi State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Head of Kinesiology. This is a tenure-track, 12-month position. The Department head reports to the Dean of the College of Education. Preferable starting date is July 1, 2006. Responsibilities: The Department Head provides academic and administrative leadership for a large program offering the bachelor's degree with concentrations in teaching/coaching, clinical exercise physiology, fitness management, and sports communication. The department also offers the master's degree with concentrations in teaching/ coaching, exercise science, and sports administration. The Department Head is responsible for budgetary actions, program development, and personnel management and evaluation. Familiarity with NCATE accreditation standards is necessary. The Department Head will promote a positive environment for stimulating teaching, research, and service. The Department Head may also serve as the graduate coordinator for the program.

Qualifications: an earned doctorate in one of the departmental degree concentration areas from an accredited university is required; must qualify for tenure and rank of professor of kinesiology; a demonstrated record of administrative experience at the program director level or above; a record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research, and service; success in facilitating external funding; membership and leadership in applicable professional societies; the ability to communicate and work effectively with others; and a commitment to working with a diverse population of students and faculty. The selected candidate must have an appropriate understanding of all subdisciplines and methods of inquiry represented in the department. Salary is commensurate with expertise and qualifications.
