Sociocultural Aspects of Sport/Recreation/ Leisure/ Physical Activity

The Faculty of Kinesiology is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track position) with research and teaching interests in Sociocultural Aspects of Sport/Recreation/ Leisure/ Physical Activity. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. (or near completion) and will be expected to compete for externally funded research grants or contracts to support their research programs and their graduate students. Duties will also include teaching foundational and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and the supervising of graduate students. Collaboration with other scholars is encouraged.

The Faculty of Kinesiology is a comprehensive academic and co-curricular unit. Its mission is to create, disseminate and apply knowledge about physical activity and its relation to health, wellness and human performance, and to provide opportunities for participation in physical activity at a variety of levels.

The Faculty’s programs are as follows:
Undergraduate Program (BSc. in Kinesiology, Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies); Graduate Program (MSc in Exercise and Sport Science, MA in Sport and Recreation Studies, MBA in Sport and Recreation, and Interdisciplinary Ph.D.);
Campus Recreation Program; Varsity Reds Intercollegiate Athletics Program;
Outreach Programs (e.g., Fitness Assessment Centre, Pediatric Weight Management Clinic, Adventure Challenge Program, Workplace Wellness, Healthy Aging, Human Factors and Ergonomics).

The Faculty is currently involved in planning an exciting new transformative building and programming project—the Healthy Living Village. Plans include new research laboratories, teaching spaces, communal spaces, offices, recreational and athletic facilities as well as facilities for healthy living outreach initiatives. Construction is scheduled to start in August 2006.
