The Sport Sciences Programme at Roehampton University is seeking to appoint a Head of Subject. The position would be ideal for senior academics, Associate or Full professors, in the sociology of sport (and exercise). Sport Sciences at Roehampton has a strong focus on teaching and researching sociology and cultural studies of sport.
The position offers a wide range of research and teaching activities in the context of one of the world’s most socially and culturally vibrant cities. As London rumbles towards the 2012 Olympic Games there are numerous opportunities for direct observation and research into the socio-cultural impact of sport. The person appointed would also be a member of the Centre for Scientific and Cultural Research in Sport (CSCRS). The Centre has a long tradition of research in the area of sport, leisure and culture with a focus on sport and social identities, embodiment and media sport.

The School of Human and Life Sciences is seeking a senior academic to act as Head of Sport Sciences and provide academic leadership for a successful team of Physiologists, Biomechanists, Psychologists and Social Scientists. There are excellent, purpose built lab facilities for both teaching and research and we have close links with professional athletes and teams, locally, nationally and internationally.
You will be an ambitious individual able to lead Sport Sciences with a clear vision of the future direction, having relevant teaching and curriculum development experience, and a personal commitment to high quality research.
Under the direction of the Dean, and as part of the School's Senior Management, you will provide leadership across the key areas of learning and teaching, research and enterprise.
Whilst this appointment is offered on a without term basis, the headship is available for a period of three years in the first instance, renewable by mutual agreement. Following this period the role holder will revert to their substantive role of Principal Lecturer/Reader or Professor depending on their original appointment. This title will be retained after completion of the headship.
