The department of Physical Education, Health and Sport Studies is seeking applicants for the position of chair. The ideal candidate will hold the rank of associate or full professor, and will have teaching expertise in physical education methodology with specialization in elementary school pedagogy.

The department offers academic/certification programs in physical education and health at the undergraduate and graduate level. Innovative department faculty also offer the college's only fully online program, which leads to professional New York State certification in physical education. The chair is responsible for personnel, planning, and operations within the academic department. The responsibilities are diverse and include: setting the academic objectives of the department and ensuring the integrity of academic programs; leading faculty in the process of assessing student learning and program improvement; representing, and advocating for, the faculty at college and divisional meetings; and maintaining a high level of communication between the faculty and the dean.

The chair is expected to teach two courses per semester. Courses may include teaching methods, movement education, curriculum in physical education, teacher behaviors, and on-line courses in the graduate program.

The successful applicant will possess strong decision-making, problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal abilities in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills. The chair is expected to work as part of a collegial team committed to educational rigor, mentoring candidates, assessment of student learning, preparing candidates to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, field supervision, professional service, and participation with our school partners in urban and suburban settings.

The School of Education and Human Services is accredited by NCATE and includes six academic departments which offer 14 initial and 11 advanced programs to prepare PK-12 teachers and other school personnel in addition to an undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine; and graduate degrees in Health and Human Performance, Sport Administration, and College Student Personnel Administration.
