Call for Papers

The British Society of Sports History Annual Conference 2008
5-7 September

Hosted by the Chelsea School, University of Brighton, in Eastbourne

The Chelsea School, University of Brighton (Eastbourne) is pleased to invite you to the 26th Annual Conference of the British Society of Sports History from September 5-7 2008. The Chelsea School (http://www.brighton.ac.uk/chelsea/) is nestled in the shadows of the glorious South Downs countryside and is only a five minute walk from the 'Sunshine Coast' of Eastbourne.

The conference will be open themed. Papers should be a maximum of 20 minutes in length with ten minutes for questions and discussion. Abstracts should be no longer than 200 words and should be sent to Dr. Marc Keech (m.keech@brighton.ac.uk) by Friday June 6th 2008 (please note this is a later date than originally advertised. Ideas for Specialist Panels will also be strongly considered.

The Richard W. Cox Postgraduate Prize will be awarded for the best paper by a postgraduate student. Please indicate when you submit your abstract if you wish to be considered for this award.

The conference will receive the Sir Derek Birley Annual Memorial Lecture on the morning of Saturday September 6th 2008. The conference will also receive special lectures from the two most recent winners of The Lord Aberdare Book Prize, Professor Tony Collins (2006) and Dr. Emma Griffin (2007).
