The University of Iowa Department of Health and Sport Studies invites
applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position in sport studies for the
academic year 2006-07, renewable for a total of three years (06-09). The
position is renewable thereafter in three year increments pending demonstrated
excellence in teaching and collegiate approval.
Duties will include teaching and advising undergraduate students in the sport
studies area. We seek someone who can teach several of the following courses:
sport and the media, inequality in sport, women and sport, and twentieth century
sport. Ability to teach a graduate course in philosophy of sport or in athletic
administration would be an asset.
Applicants with an earned doctorate in sport studies or a related field are
preferred but applicants in the final stages of a doctoral program will also be
considered. Some teaching experience is expected.
The Department of Health and Sport Studies is part of the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences. Our undergraduate program in sport studies draws on a range
of social science and humanities contexts to study sport and physical activity
within their cultural and historical contexts.
