Who is the course for?
The MA in Coach Education and Sports Development is for students who want to develop a
critical understanding of the relationships between sport, coaching, physical activity and the social context.

The one-year full-time programme is specifically designed to enable graduates to advance their careers in a wide range of fields related to sport, coaching, and sports development.

You should apply for a place if you:

• want to enter the sport, coaching, and, physical activity professions
• are already working in coaching and sports development and want to extend your career options
• want to continue your studies perhaps with a view to taking a PhD and working in the
university sector.

What will you gain from the course?
The course is designed to give you an in-depth and critical understanding of a wide range of theories and practices associated with sport, culture and coaching. It will enable you to critically analyse:

• the wider social, economic and political significance of sport and coaching
• sport and coaching as diverse experiential forms through which physically active bodies are organized, regulated, trained and consumed
• the psychological foundations of coaching and performance
• the practical and theoretical foundations of coaching pedagogy.

What is the course content?
You would take the following units during the course:

• Sport and Coaching in Context
• Contemporary Theory for Sport, Coaching and Physical Activity
• Coaching, Pedagogy, and Practice
• Advanced in Psychology for Sport, Coaching and Physical Activity
• Research Methods

You are also required to write a Research Dissertation.
