The ASA Resources for Teaching Materials volume Sociology of Sport: Syllabi
and Teaching Resources is seeking submissions for its upcoming 5th edition.
In addition to full length syllabi from Sociology of Sport courses, this
volume especially seeks thorough descriptions of successful in-class
activities, out-of-class projects, and paper assignments. Additionally, this
edition would like to integrate examples of how other sociology courses
(e.g., introduction, gender, race/ethnicity, economics, work and
organizations) have utilized the sociology of sport in their lessons. So
even if you have not taught a full length Sociology of Sport class but have
incorporated the study of sport into a particular course section or session,
please strongly consider submitting these materials. Additionally, this
edition plans to include original essays on the place of Sociology of Sport
in undergraduate sociology curriculum and descriptions of effective films or
other media for specific lessons. Finally, it also will include brief (1-4
pages) descriptions and/or reviews of Sociology of Sport textbooks or other
books pertinent to the study of sport.
All submissions and questions should be directed to Kyle C. Longest, 155
Hamilton Hall, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC
27599 (klongest@email.unc.edu).
All submissions should be sent in Microsoft Word (.doc) format. The deadline
for submission is March 1, 2008.
