CFP: 1st Annual University of Maryland Physical Cultural Studies Student Conference

Call for Papers
1st Annual University of Maryland Physical Cultural Studies Student Conference: "Cultural Studies ó Critical Research and Writing"

Cultural Studies has long been based on a commitment to progressive social upheaval with a focus on the popular in the contemporary condition. Given this context, the Physical Cultural Studies Program at the University of Maryland - College Park is pleased to announce its first graduate student conference to be held Friday, April 25, 2008. This notice serves as a call for papers from on a variety of topics pertaining to cultural studies and human movement ranging from, but not limited to, the use of the body, space, ethical considerations in cultural studies research, teaching Physical Cultural Studies, national identities, and the role of neoliberalism in contemporary society. For those graduate students interested in presenting the deadline for abstracts (250 words) is March 8th, 2008. Please direct all inquiries, and/or email abstracts with "PCS Abstract" in the heading to Ryan White at ryan198@gmail.com.

Keynote Speech by: Dr. Lisa Swanson, Towson University "Physical Cultural Studies: Before, During, and After College Park"

Dr. Lisa Swanson is the first graduate from the University of Maryland – College Park Physical Cultural Studies Program, and she will be presenting a lecture of her experiences with Cultural Studies from the University to the professional realm. As such, Dr. Swanson will be discussing how Cultural Studies has provided an influence on her everyday life, both personally and professionally.

University of Maryland – College Park PCS Post-Conference Activity

There is a game scheduled on April 25th at the Washington Nationals new baseball stadium, and the PCS program is looking into purchasing a small block of tickets to the event. If you are interested in attending please indicate that in your email to Ryan White.

Accommodations

Guests are encouraged to stay at the Ramada Inn Limited, located 1 mile from the University. At this time double occupancyrooms are approximately $70 per night.
