Social Science and Drugs in Sport

Stipend: $20,037 p.a. for 3 years (tax free)

UNSW@ADFA is providing a PhD scholarships to support social science research
into the use of drugs in sport.

Choice Modelling: In this project, choice modelling is used to study athletes’
decisions to use performance enhancing substances. The supervisors’ backgrounds
are in applied economics (choice modelling) and health/social/mathematical
psychology. The project aims to develop an experimentally derived model of
factors that drive athletes’ decisions to abstain from or use performance
enhancing substances and methods.

Applicants from any social science background will be considered. This project
would be more suited to some one quantitatively minded, or some one willing to
learn more about quantitative methods in the social sciences.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed or expect to complete an Honours
degree (at least IIA) or a research equivalent (e.g. Masters degree with
thesis).

Appointment: The applicant must be willing to study full time in Australia and
commence before 31 August 2006.
