Sport Studies: The University of Iowa Department of Health and Sport Studies invites applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position in sport studies for the academic year 2006-2007. The position is renewable for a total of three years (2006-2009) and renewable thereafter in three year increments pending demonstrated excellence in teaching and collegiate approval. Duties will include teaching and advising undergraduate students in the sport studies area. We seek someone who can teach several of the following courses: sport and the media, inequality in sport, women and sport, twentieth century sport, US sport to 1900, or sport in the western world. Ability to teach a graduate course in philosophy of sport or in athletic administration would be an asset. Applicants with an earned doctorate in sport studies or a related field are preferred but applicants in the final stages of a doctoral program will also be considered. Some teaching experience is expected. The Department of Health and Sport Studies is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Our undergraduate program in sport studies draws on a range of social science and humanities contexts to focus on sport and physical activity within their cultural and historical context. The department has a strong commitment to diversity in our curriculum and our faculty. We are particularly interested in identifying members of underrepresented minorities to join us at Iowa.
