Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)In Socio-Cultural Kinesiology

The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in the socio-cultural aspects of kinesiology who is a productive scholar in at least two of the following research areas pertaining to the critical and theoretically informed analysis of sport, health, and physical activity: the body, gender, and sexuality; feminist physical cultural studies; sport and cultural histories; race, space, and identity; race relations and [inter]national politics; and, racial and ethnic histories. Such productivity should be demonstrated in a focused program of research, experience teaching in the chosen field of study, and ability to mentor undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral students. The position represents an opportunity for those interested in becoming part of innovative programs in Sport Commerce and Culture (undergraduate) and Physical Cultural Studies (graduate).

Qualifications: Candidates must have completed a PhD degree in kinesiology or related domain of inquiry, and evidence of a sustained and focused research program.

Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a nationally recognized program of original research, while demonstrating a willingness to collaborate with current faculty in the Sport Commerce and Culture program. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that complement existing curricular offerings and supervise MA/PhD graduate students. Demonstrate a willingness to seek external funding.

Salary and Appointment Date: This is a 9-month tenure-track appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The appointment can begin August 17, 2006.
