Rank: Assistant Professor Tenure-Track – Historical/Philosophical/Socio-Cultural Foundations of
Human Movement

Qualifications: Applicant academic training in Kinesiology, Physical Education or closely related field of study; academic emphasis in areas of history, philosophy, and/or sociology/socio-cultural foundations of sport, exercise and dance; ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in these areas; evidence of research ability and/or ongoing scholarly productivity; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within and outside the university; effective teaching and communication skills; evidence of a broad view of Kinesiology valuing equally the biological, aesthetic and socio-cultural knowledge of human movement; evidence of cultural sensitivity, cultural competence and experience within a multicultural and multiethnic environment. Applicants must have Ph.D. in hand, or near completion, at time of appointment. Applicants who do not have a Ph.D. at time of appointment will be appointed as a one-year lecturer, converted to tenure track at completion of the doctorate. A Ph.D. is required for the granting of tenure. Preferred qualifications include: prior successful college teaching experience.
CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology major courses in the areas of historical, philosophical, and/or socio-cultural foundations of human movement forms including elite sport, mass sport as well as influences on sedentary/active lifestyle choices throughout the lifespan; advise undergraduate and graduate students; interact with other faculty to assure the appropriate integration of historical, philosophical, and/or socio-cultural concepts to other curricular offerings; develop a line of scholarly research; serve on departmental, college, and university committees as needed.
