The Department for Health is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Physical Education, who is a scholar with a strong record of publications and either a track-record or clear strategy to attract research funding. We are seeking a dynamic, adaptable colleague who will work with us to ensure the continuing strength of the Department in both research and teaching. You will be expected to maintain and develop your own programme of research, be successful in seeking external funding, and contribute to teaching and research supervision on relevant programmes. It is expected that your scholarly activities will complement and further enhance existing research foci in and further develop links between the Department for Health and the Department of Sports Development and Recreation, as well as the local community and schools.

CFP: Girl Power in Play

Women Deliver, a global organization advocating for the health and well-being of girls and women, will be holding a groundbreaking symposium titled Girl Power in Play during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada in 2015. This symposium will focus on the linkages between sports and girls' development, particularly in developing countries. The symposium is tentatively scheduled to take place in Ottawa, Canada on June 18 and 19, 2015.

They are now accepting submissions for concurrent session presentations on research around girls, sports and development; or case studies of sports-based programs affecting girls. Please note that limited funding may be available for speakers from developing countries only.

Submissions will be accepted until 12pm EST Friday, November 14. All applicants will be notified by January 20, 2015.

The two position openings are for Assistant Professors in Sport Management. POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an innovative scholar in Kinesiology with interest and experience in graduate education to take a leading role in our online professional EdD program in Kinesiology. The EdD program, is a cohort‐based, interdisciplinary professional degree program where students move through the program together in learning communities to complete their coursework and dissertation in 4 years http://kin.wp.uncg.edu/edd/.  Primary responsibilities include teaching, advising and supervision of dissertations in the EdD program, maintaining an active line of research, and engaging in departmental, professional and university service activities. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have 1) an earned doctorate in Kinesiology or related field, 2) a broad knowledge of Kinesiology and its sub‐disciplines, 3) demonstrated record and active line of scholarship that complements the EdD program, and 4) experience in graduate teaching and thesis/dissertation supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Interest or experience with a broad range of scholarly methodologies relevant for applied/action‐oriented scholarship.  Experience with online pedagogy and digital literacy / technologies.  Experience with program evaluation, and evidence‐based pedagogical practices.

CFP: North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) Conference 2015

Dear NASSS community,
The North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) Conference will take place June 2 - 6, 2015 in Ottawa and will be hosted by the University of Ottawa’s Sport Management Group. The NASSM conference has been held every year since 1986, making 2015 its 30th edition. With this edition, the University of Ottawa will be the only university to have hosted the conference twice (the first time was in 1991). The conference will be set at the beautiful Delta Ottawa City Centre, just minutes from campus and the downtown core.

On behalf of the sport management group at the University of Ottawa, we would like to share the call for abstracts. This year, the theme of the conference will be: Knowledge, Passion, Community: Driving Sport Forward.

NASSM features a wide array of research areas (e.g., governance, communication, economics, law, leadership, marketing, teaching and sociology) as they related to sporting phenomena. The abstract submission process will commence October 1, 2014 and conclude November 1, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. (P.S.T.).

Job Summary/Basic Function: Teaching, advisement and assessment of students enrolled in the Sport Management Studies Program. Ability to teach within the several foundational and core competency areas of Sport Management. Participate in curriculum revision, internship screening/selection and other scholarly and service activities typically expected of faculty members.  The faculty member will also advise Sport Management majors, engage in professional and scholarly activities (such as seeking external funding to support research interests, facility upgrades, research initiatives/publication, and outreach programs), and other university/community service activities typically expected of faculty members.

Our summit will have a “Ted Talk” feel. Presentations will be 12 minutes with a question and answer session after each series of presenters.

Section B: School Responsibilities
The Head of School will be responsible for:
1. In consultation with staff, the development, implementation and annual review of the strategic direction of the School that is consistent with the College and University strategy. Activities and target performance levels will be consistent with available resources and acceptable to the Pro Vice-Chancellor.
2. Achieving a commitment by staff of the School to the School’s strategic direction.
3. The optimal use of human, financial and physical resources allocated to the School, in accordance with the College’s planning documents and the School’s strategic direction.
4. The development and promotion of the School as a place of international repute in which to study, research and work and with which to collaborate.
5. The establishment and maintenance of effective links with professional and community bodies and other external organisations to promote the activities and objectives of the School.
6. The encouragement of initiatives that seek external funding for the development of research in the School.
7. The promotion of the well-being of staff and students of the School.
8. Personally, or by acceptable methods of delegation, the management of the staff and resources of the School in accordance with University and College policies and procedures giving particular attention to:
