The Department of Sport and Leisure Studies teaches both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in sport and leisure studies and health and physical education, supports a range of research interests and has an international reputation for its strength in qualitative and critical methodologies.

This established position provides leadership in building capacity for undertaking high quality research, attracting external research funding and mentoring a team of dynamic emerging scholars.

A PhD in a relevant area together with a broad and in-depth knowledge of critical, qualitative, socio-cultural research and teaching in the areas of sport, leisure, physical education, health, dance, outdoor recreation and physical activity is required.

You will demonstrate expertise through a research record of sustained excellence and commitment to the development of research, postgraduate programmes, consultancy and the establishment of research teams. With the ability to contribute to teaching and supervision at all levels, you will provide high levels of academic leadership and mentor staff. You will also be expected to develop links and strengthen working relationships both internally and externally.

The level of appointment will be dependent on qualifications, research record and experience. Current salary range for Professors is NZ$108,165 to $137,644 per year and Associate Professors is NZ$92,881 to $105,813 per year.
