JOB: Senior Lecturer in Sport Studies, Univ of New Hampshire

SENIOR LECTURER POSITION IN SPORT STUDIES


The Department of Kinesiology at the University of New Hampshire seeks a Senior Lecturer in Sport Studies. Position responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester, committee work, advising, and appropriate involvement in scholarship. The position also includes leadership of the Department’s Center for the Advancement of Sport and Community, whose mission is to gather, generate, analyze, and distribute knowledge about the role of sport in the development of community, which we take to include the development of social, physical, human, and economic capital in an environment of positive and diverse social relations.

In particular, the position responsibilities would include:

· Revising course outlines (and teaching courses) in KIN 561 (History of American Sport and Physical Culture); KIN 562 (Introduction to Sports Media Relations); KIN 580 (The Sport Industry), to focus more attention on public policy initiatives related to the Center’s mission.

· Serving as a liaison with New Hampshire schools and other public and not-for-profit agencies to identify and develop and supervise internships, volunteer experiences, and service-learning course components related to the Center’s mission.

· Serving as a liaison with UNH Athletics to promote their program’s involvement in Center activities.

· Developing and maintaining a web site dedicated to identifying and promoting public policy initiatives in community-building through sport.

· Monitoring the new Sport Studies curriculum rule requiring majors to complete at least 150 hours of sport service prior to enrollment in KIN 761 (Senior Seminar).

Position Requirements:
· PhD in History, Public Policy, Political Science, Sport Studies, or related discipline required.
· Experience in sport industry and in public policy arenas required.
· Demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students as well as community groups of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
